Behind the Canvas: Working in the Camdeboo

Living and working in Aberdeen gives us direct daily access to the Camdeboo mountain range and the surrounding Karoo countryside.

Our practice centres on painting en plein air along local farm roads, as well as working from quick sketchbook studies, field notes, and memories, back in the studio. Inspiration happens constantly on the road, when one of us drives, the other often paints or sketches from the passenger seat to catch a fleeting effect of light before it shifts.

The resulting body of work features a dynamic mix of watercolour, gouache and oil paintings that reflect the raw atmosphere and quiet rhythm of life in the Great Karoo.
